  We are all looking for a way to manage stress. Being stressed out on a daily basis can lead you to feel like your life is out of control and that there’s nothing you can do about it. Here’s ten ways that you can reduce stress levels and take control of your life again!

Meditate to Reduce Stress

Research shows that adding meditation to your daily routine can lead to a reduction in stress and an improvement of general well being. Dedicating a few minutes out of your day to practice is simple! Go to a quiet place and make yourself comfortable. Sit up straight either in a chair or on the floor. Close your eyes and focus your attention on silencing your thoughts. Allow them to come and go, without attaching yourself to any specific emotion or response.

Get moving.

Hop off that couch and get into motion! You don’t have to be an all-star athlete to enjoy exercise. Any form of working out will help the brain release endorphins and other hormones that will help your body feel good. Getting outside and going for a walk or hitting the gym can get those chemicals pumping and relax your body.

Eat a healthy diet.

When your body is healthy your mind is too. Your body is better prepared to deal with stress and anxiety when it’s well nourished. Be sure to get the appropriate amount of fruits, veggies and water throughout the day, and your stress levels will decline.

Sleep more.

Sleep fuels your body. When your skipping out on a good night’s sleep it will show. Your mind and body will feel tired, and that leads to increased stress levels and irrational thinking. Hit the pillow every night and be sure to get about seven to eight hours of sleep.

Write it out.

Releasing your thoughts and recognizing positive things can help you appreciate life. Keeping a gratitude journal will help you de-stress and value the good things in your life. Start a journal and write five things you are grateful for each day.

Cut out those bad habits.

Turning to alcohol or drugs to relieve stress only provides temporary relieve. Substances only help you escape for a short amount of time and don’t help you truly address your problems. Attack you stress head on and with a clear mind.

Listen to some tunes.

Music can be the key to relaxation in the right moments. Research shows that listening to music can reduce your blood pressure and heart rate. Try creating a playlist of your favorite songs. Listen to these songs whenever you need to blow off some steam and it’ll help take put you in a more relaxed state of mind.

Unplug.

Taking a break from technology can allow you to clear your mind. You’re attacked with a barrage of information on a daily basis, so taking some time to enjoy your surroundings instead can lead to instant stress relief. If you can, take 15 to 30 minutes each day to ignore all electronic devices.

Get creative.

Art is one of the simplest ways to reach instant stress relief. Take up an art project that you’ve been neglecting and work towards finishing it. Adult coloring books can provide so stress-free entertainment too! Take some time each day to be creative and get those artistic juices flowing.

Create a routine.

Any routine can take the stress out of your daily life. A planned strategy to attack all of your daily problems can take the uncertainty out of any situation. Create a routine for the most stressful parts of your day, and stick with it for at least 21 days after you implement it to create a habit.
