WHY YOU NEED TO GET MORE SLEEP

for oxidative health + reducing inflammation + improving foundational wellness

Hi – I’m Dr. Meredith Warner, orthopedic surgeon, functional medicine physician, Air Force veteran, and founder of Well Theory.

One of the most common recommendations I make to my patients is for them to make good sleeping habits more of a priority. Sleep is when your body repairs itself, regenerates tissues, clears out most of your harmful free radicals, and more.

Getting 7-9 hours of quality, uninterrupted sleep a day is essential to maintaining good health. It’s when your brain and body do most of their “housekeeping” tasks like removing toxins and inflammation, neutralizing harmful free radicals, and more.

Because of its benefits for antioxidant production and function, good sleep is really one of the best anti-aging treatments possible.

Oxidative damage, or damage to your cells membranes, DNA, mitochondria and more from free radical activity, can “speed up” the aging process by degrading these structures over time.

SLEEP AND OXIDATIVE STRESS

how high-quality rest can reduce free radical damage

What Is Oxidative Stress? Why Do You Need Antioxidants?

Oxidative stress occurs when your body has difficulty breaking down free radicals and these free radicals outnumber the antioxidants in your body.

When unpaired electrons, the building blocks of molecules, are released during this process, they can wreak havoc on the body. Your body naturally releases antioxidants to capture these electrons, but a variety of factors can impact your body’s ability to create antioxidants.

Oxidative stress generally increases as we age. Oxidative stress in the brain and nervous system leads to pain, decreased cognition and a decline of motor abilities over time. So a lot of the “age-related” diseases we see today are actually linked to oxidative damage.

How Sleep Can Reduce Oxidative Stress

Experts agree: if you aren’t getting enough high-quality rest, you’re going to experience the effects of antioxidant damage.

This study found that night-shift workers had “higher levels of oxidative stress damage, and lower levels of antioxidant defenses,” confirming that their work-interrupted, abnormal circadian rhythms were to blame for their oxidative inflammation.

Additionally, this study found that “inducing sleep increases resistance to oxidative stress.”

So if you’re looking to reduce oxidative damage – improving the amount of sleep you get each night is the perfect place to start. This is why I developed my new Restful Sleep Gummy with both natural sleep aids and an effective dose of antioxidants.

“If you don’t sleep, your muscles, joints, brain, and connective tissue cannot and will not recover. Sleep is an integral part of your foundational wellness, and should be prioritized!

“The ingredients in my new Restful Sleep Gummy contain antioxidants like Tart Cherry Extract, combined with natural sleep aids like GABA, Melatonin, and Chamomile to not only help you fall asleep. These ingredients will help you realize the full antioxidant potential of truly restful sleep.” – Dr. Meredith Warner

WHY DR. WARNER RECOMMENDS TART CHERRY EXTRACT:

for antioxidant support, pain + inflammation relief, & natural muscle recovery

Arthritis? Gout? I especially recommend tart cherry supplements to patients struggling with gout, as it has also been shown to help with gout flares. Tart cherry has also been found to reduce pain in fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and also in situations with induced oxidative stress and muscle damage.

Dr. Meredith Warner, Orthopedic Surgeon

One of the ingredients in my new Restful Sleep Gummy is one that I have been recommending to my patients for years. Tart Cherry Extract is a powerful, natural supplement that can truly help you build your foundational wellness.

Tart cherry is one of the best natural anti-inflammatories and antioxidants available.

These benefits are specific to tart cherries – not sweet ones. You won’t get these benefits from Bing sweet cherries. And since the taste of tart cherry juice can be off-putting, I decided to develop my own line of supplements with concentrated extract – for easy dosing and maximum absorption.

A Natural NSAID Alternative

The antioxidants present in tart cherries can reduce pain and inflammation. In addition, it works on the same Cox-2 receptors as NSAID pain relievers – but without the harsh side effects of these over-the-counter drugs.

This makes Tart Cherry Extract ideal for post-workout recovery, or a natural solution if you find that you’re sore from being on your feet all day.

A Healthy Source Of Antioxidants

Tart cherry intake has also been proven to reduce oxidative damage to muscle and other tissues. Tart cherries have an abundance of plant compounds – anthocyanins and flavonols – that are considered helpful in halting the negative effects of premature aging related to oxidative damage.

A Natural Source Of Melatonin

In addition, the melatonin content of tart cherries and tart cherry extract is beneficial. Melatonin is a natural sleep aid. Therefore, tart cherry will help the brain to detoxify through antioxidant activities and assist in sleep which also benefits the brain at night.

HOW TO GET RESULTS WITH NATURAL MEDICINE

“My goal is to help people age better, age fitter, and enjoy their old age. We’re all going to get old. You can’t stop that."

Meredith Warner, MD
  1. Have a mindset of wellness over time: Don’t Expect It To Feel Like A Synthetic Drug. The timeline for better health with natural medicine is longer than with synthetic pharmaceuticals.

  2. Addressing Root Cause: Natural remedies attempt to address the root causes, or the cellular beginnings of a given problem, pain, or inflammation. Naturally, this will take a bit longer and be less noticeable initially. But the results are wonderful.

  3. Few Known Side Effects: My Well Theory products are formulated with higher doses of plant-based ingredients to deliver steady results over time – without the harmful side effects found in traditional pharmaceutical applications.

  4. Get Blood Work Done: There are inflammatory markers you can check to determine your progress.

  5. I Take Everything We Make: I wholeheartedly believe in the power of natural supplements.
