What Is Delta-8-THC And Is It Legal?
Delta-8-THC is a federally legal derivative of the Cannabis sativa plant. It is therefore derived from the cannabis plant. Some states do have regulations against the delta-8. The 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized the use of CBD with limitations on the delta-9 form of THC. Products can contain no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC to be considered industrial hemp. The same is true of delta-8 products of course. These may not contain more than 0.3% delta-9-thc either.
Delta-8 VS Delta-9
Delta-8-THC like delta-9-THC can be psychoactive. Structurally the compounds are almost identical and utilize the same endocannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). Remember these receptors are ubiquitous in our bodies and we make molecules that attach to and activate them. The plant-based molecules from the Cannabis sativa plant are simply able to activate them as well. The therapeutic benefits of both delta-8 and delta-9-THC appear to be very similar and almost equally effective. This is anecdotal only, there are no comparative effectiveness studies as of yet. Delta-8-THC is defined as a minor cannabinoid as it is found in very small concentrations in the cannabis plant.
